Welcome! Our chapters goals are:
- To promote awareness of optics and photonics
- To serve as a means of communication and interaction between students,
faculty, and administration.
- To establish interaction between students and the local chapters and
national headquarters of the Optical Society of America.
- To broaden the student's insight of post-graduate opportunities.
Our past activities have included:
- optics demonstrations to high school students during E-Week and the summer
- inviting speakers to talk at meetings
- tours of local companies such as LI-COR and the J. A. Woollam Co.
If these activities are of interest to you, check out our calendar of
events or contact our officers .
Photonics
Photonics is defined as "the technology of generating and
harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the
photon." A vast range of devices are included in this definition including light
sources such as lamps and lasers, devices which modify the nature of the light
in some manner such as polarizers, amplifiers, electro-optic devices, as well as
detectors of the generated light and the associated electronics.
